Background

During his Twitch stream on June 14, 2022, Mike Shinoda revealed he had been working with Pvris. He said, "I feel like I can tell you who I've a session with today. I feel like this song is gonna probably, we talked about it coming out. I have a session with Pvris today. An artist named Lynn Gunn. The band named Pvris, not the Harris. Yeah, we've been working on some couple things. We got a song that's pretty dope, I think. I like it. Working on that today."[1]

He further commented on the collaboration during an interview with KROQ in February 2023. "The thing that I have been the most involved in, I've been producing stuff for other people, writing, producing for other people. And so, I have some songs coming out, we just put out a song by Justus Bennets, which I love, I have something in the way with PVRIS... P-V-R Paris, yeah, not the blonde one, but the brunette one. Her name is Lynn, she's awesome."[2]

Lynn Gunn commented on working with Shinoda in an interview with Dork Magazine, talking about how Linkin Park's blend of different musical styles, including “electronic music, hip-hop and rock" aligned with her idea of PVRIS' constantly shifting musical identity.[3] She expanded on this idea when talking about what she feels her role is as an artist. “It’s not my job as an artist to cater to certain trends or people’s nostalgia, I have to follow what I feel compelled to follow and do my best to uncover what truths and messages I can find within that. I have to always embrace the risks of change and trust that each stage of my music’s life will resonate with whoever it’s meant to.”[4]

Live

"Take My Nirvana" debuted at their first show of the Godless/Goddess tour. The song featured a piano intro where Lynn sang the chorus of the song, which was followed by a brief jam version of the chorus instrumental before transitioning into the first verse. There was also a longer pause between the piano chorus after the bridge and the final chorus. The lights would turn off as if the song had ended before the band came back in for the last chorus. This version of "Take My Nirvana" stayed a staple through the European leg of the "Oil & Water" tour before being cut from the set for the North American leg.

It returned to the set at the second show of the US leg of the From Zero World Tour in Boston, the hometown of PVRIS. Lynn introduced the song by talking about how excited they were to be playing with Linkin Park (pronouncing it "Linkin Pahk" as a joke about Boston accents) and mentioned that she worked on "Take My Nirvana" with Mike Shinoda. The song received a new intro: instead of a piano start, the synth intro from the album transitioned into the same chorus jam.

Lyrics

You've been slowly escaping your dimension
Trying to drag me to another plane
And I can't help but feel your bad intentions
A black cloud I can see from miles away

You're the worst kind of criminal, yeah
You miss your shots
Treat me like I'm invisible
Is that all you've got? Oh

I don't have time for your drama
Follow me around like piranhas
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana, no
Steady sweating me like a sauna
All it's gonna be is bad karma
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana

Walking in like a lamb into the slaughter
Can't comprehend how you do this every time
'Cause no one else can turn wine back into water
Steal the charm just like a crook
You wrote the book on killing vibes

You're the worst kind of criminal, yeah
You miss your shots
Treat me like I'm invisible
Is that all you got? Oh

I don't have time for your drama
Follow me around like piranhas
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana, no
Steady sweating me like a sauna
All it's gonna be is bad karma
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana

Made it this far, so I can't start running
Not gonna let you take this from me
Made it this far, so I can't start running
Not gonna let you take this, take this

I don't have time
I don't have time
I don't have time for your drama
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana, no
Steady sweating me like a sauna
All it's gonna be is bad karma
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana

Made it this far, so I can't start running
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana
Made it this far, so I can't start running
You're acting like you don't, but you wanna
Take my nirvana
Take my nirvana
