Introduction

The European Tour 2001 was Linkin Park's first major European headlining tour, taking place just as Hybrid Theory was exploding worldwide. The tour was scheduled to begin on September 11 in Hamburg but the show was cancelled due to the tragedy that occurred in the U.S. that day. The band returned to Europe following the Back To School Tour, during which they served as the supporting act for Deftones. The core was all Hybrid Theory, songs from the Hybrid Theory EP (And One & Step Up) and additional material (High Voltage, new version of My December, Morning After and intros/interludes by Joe Hahn).

Debuts

"Step Up": at the tour's opening concert in Berlin on September 12, the band gave the song its live debut, featuring an extended bridge and outro, a structure perfectly suited for live performance.

"Morning After": one of the great rarities of the first show of the tour in Berlin on September 12th was the debut of the song, performed acoustically by Chester. Chester explained that he had written the song about anticipating one day achieving success in the music business. Furthermore, the Berlin performance is the only existing recording of Chester playing the song acoustically in 2001.

Second version of "My December": Although the band had performed the song before, a new acoustic version appeared on September 15th in Manchester. The London show the following day was planned to be filmed for a possible DVD, so Manchester served as a sort of dress rehearsal.

"Docklands Intro": on September 16 at the Docklands Arena, Joe introduced a new intro before With You, an intro that eventually became very famous and continued to be used by the band for the rest of the year.

"Blow Your Mind": on September 16 at the Docklands Arena, Joe's semi-famous interlude was first played. It was used on-and-off for the rest of 2001 as well as during all of Projekt Revolution 2002.

Docklands Arena

The band's sold-out show in London on September 16th appears to have been conceived as a potential first official Linkin Park live DVD. Fans had to sign a document authorizing its recording. One of the tour's famous moments occurred during this show when the band stopped playing "Papercut" due to the crowd's movement. During the song's first chorus, Brad stopped playing, and the rest of the band followed suit. Chester and Mike addressed the audience, asking them to look out for each other before resuming the song. This demonstrated how the band already had enough control over the stage and the audience to halt a massive show for safety reasons. "With You" and "High Voltage" from this show were released on the Underground 2.0 CD LP.

Memorable Moment

At the Manchester show on September 15th, Oli Sykes, who years later would found Bring Me The Horizon, was in the audience. This was the first show Oli ever attended, and he himself stated that the experience led him to create his own band.
